“You’re Not Alone”: How Real Support Can Make a Difference in Ministry

Ministry is one of the most rewarding callings there is—but if we’re honest, it can also be one of the loneliest. Whether you’re leading college students, pastoring the next generation, or shepherding a church, you’ve probably felt it: the weight of the work, the fluid schedules, and the quiet moments when you wonder if anyone really sees what you’re carrying.

At Connect Ministries, we exist to Help Churches Meet New People — we believe a massive way we can Help Churches Meet New People is by supporting the leaders who are in those churches. That’s why we’re launching A Minister Support Series, a monthly video and blog series built around one simple question: How can we support you, better?

Let’s take a look at where we’re starting and how we hope this becomes a meaningful support system for you and your ministry.

What Is A Minister Support Series?

This series is a monthly conversation featuring real ministers having real conversations about what it looks like to thrive—and survive—in ministry today. In our introductory episode, Connect staff members Adam Schwarzenbach and Hannah Howard sit down with Tommy Fountain Jr., campus minister at the University of Georgia BCM, to talk about rhythms, challenges, and what it really looks like to support one another in ministry.

The heart behind it? We don’t want to tell you what you need—we want to ask. We want to be the people who show up, ask good questions, and stay committed to walking with you through the hard and the uncomfortable parts of ministry.

What Support Really Looks Like (And What It Doesn’t)

In this episode, Tommy shares what many ministry leaders feel but rarely say out loud: support doesn’t always look like a new program or flashy resource—it often starts with something as simple as a conversation over coffee.

It’s the friend who shows up when things go sideways.
It’s a network of peers who know what ministry actually feels like.
It’s being able to text another pastor and say, “Hey, this just happened—can I talk it through with you?”

Support is less about giving advice, and more about building relationships. It’s being present, being available, and knowing when to ask, “What do you actually need?” instead of assuming the answer. Most of the time, assuming the answer does make a big tangible difference. It often looks like providing a resource, giving a book, telling a verse, or even praying with someone. That makes a big difference, but we want to teach you to be alongside ministry leaders and know when to ask the right questions.

Ministry Can Be Fulfilling—and Still Feel Lonely

One of the most powerful moments in the conversation is when Tommy says,

“Sometimes I feel like I have a lot of friends… but they’re all between 18 and 22.”

Sound familiar?

Whether you’re on a college campus or at a local church, it’s easy to pour yourself out all week long without having anyone pour back into you. And when your primary relationships are with people who rotate every few years (like students or staff), maintaining long-term support can be incredibly difficult.

That’s why this series matters. Because the solution isn’t to work harder—it’s to be known and supported by others who are in it with you.

How Can We Serve You Better?

We don’t want to create a one-size-fits-all resource. In fact, we’re asking for your help. What do you need most in this season?

  • Is it a connection with other ministers in a similar role?
  • Training in leadership, evangelism, or burnout prevention?
  • Resources for your students or volunteers?
  • Just someone to talk to?

Whatever it is, we want to know. You can email us anytime at [email protected] or text us directly at (706) 229-7641. We’ll be reading every message—and doing our best to respond to your real needs.

What’s Coming Next: Mental Wellness in Ministry

In our next episode, we’re talking about a topic that affects almost every ministry leader but is often overlooked: mental wellness. How do we stay spiritually grounded and emotionally healthy when we’re constantly pouring into others? We’ll sit down with another ministry leader to explore honest struggles, sustainable rhythms, and practical ways to stay well.

You won’t want to miss it.

Takeaway Points:

  • Support is relational, not just practical—and it often starts with simple conversations.
  • Ministry leaders need support systems just as much as they offer them.
  • You’re not alone. If you need help, encouragement, or connection—we want to walk with you.
